Small parts are vital roles in any TV programme that is being cast. They’re often the first TV credit actors gain, and many actors audition for parts of this size throughout their careers. But they’re surprisingly tricky roles to nail in a casting room. It’s a different and difficult skill to get right. This workshop with Casting Director Rick Laxton will use practical script work to explore approaches to these roles, examining what Casting Directors are looking for, and what actors can do to increase their chances of success.
Rick Laxton is a freelance Casting Director and member of the CDG. He has cast over 800 hours of TV content for major broadcasters such as BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Amazon Prime, Disney, History and Nickelodeon. Before going freelance, Rick was Head of Casting at Lime Pictures from 2010 to 2015, a position he took after working in the ITV Casting Department for 7 years. Rick's TV credits include Comedy (incl. Peter Kay’s Car Share, Scarborough), Soap (Hollyoaks, Coronation Street), Drama (incl. The Case, The Road to Coronation Street) and Children’s Drama (incl. The Evermoor Chronicles, Rocket’s Island).
