Director, playwright and actor Matthew Dunster is perhaps best known as the director of the National Theatre's Love the Sinner and The Globe's Doctor Faustus. He has directed, written and acted for many theatres in the UK and internationally; twice being nominated for an Olivier award.
Recent work includes directing: MAMETZ, National Theatre Wales; THE DAYS THE NIGHTS THE WOUNDS AND THE NIGHT, HeadSpaceDance; BEFORE THE PARTY, Almeida Theatre; THE LOVE-GIRL AND THE INNOCENT Southwark Playhouse; A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Open Air Theatre (Regents Park); MOGADISHU Royal Exchange, Manchester and Lyric Hammersmith and LOVE THE SINNER, National Theatre.
He is currently under commission to The Royal Exchange in Manchester and The Sheffield Crucible and is writing his first feature film.
Matthew is committed to making the space and process creative for the actor. The actor is the most important resource in the space. Many skills the actor has, as an interpreter of existing material, aren't utilised and built on enough in the creation of material. In this two day workshop Matthew will work with members on some early material of a new musical he is writing and participants will look at how to create new material that is actor led. There will be no singing as part of the workshop so non-singers shouldn't be put off.
