Joe is Deputy Artistic Director of the Young Vic Theatre in London. Inspired by the idea that on stage 'if you do one thing, you must do the opposite', this fun, practical workshop explores how to build the most complex interpretations of theatrical characters. Using both classical and modern text, Joe will look at how to unearth and express the conflicting impulses that lie inside every character, and also how to constantly challenge your instincts and take your performances to new, undiscovered territory. Joe's recent directing credits include The Changeling, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and The Glass Menagerie (Young Vic), and The Village Bike and The Girlfriend Experience (Royal Court). This September he will direct Edward II by Christopher Marlowe at the National Theatre.
