An opportunity for those who have completed The Close Up course to develop the ideas and themes explored yet further.
This workshop, structured over three days, will pick up where The Close Up finished off.
Members will work in a small group with Director David Penn to explore a deeper understanding of how the lens of the camera relates, on a psychic level, to facets of your inner self.
Together you will explore the fundamentals of the craft of acting on screen in a process that is both enlightening and empowering.
David Penn has been directing actors in theatre, television and film for over thirty years. He was resident staff director at the Bristol Old Vic and the National Theatre in London where he worked as the assistant to Harold Pinter, David Hare and Tom Stoppard. David has directed both contemporary and classic plays at home and abroad. David has directed drama on all the major UK terrestrial channels, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Five as well as on Sky 1. He also writes and has delivered two original screenplays, one of which is currently being considered for major production.
Preparation: please bring one piece of learnt duologue, no more than a page in length, where your character should have more to say (one of the other actors attending will read the other part, off-camera). This could be a scene you have played before (although please avoid the piece you used at The Close Up), be one you are about to audition, interview for or simply be one you want to do; and it doesn't matter if it's a scene that has been written for the stage.
