Matt has worked as an independent freelance Casting Director on numerous prestige projects including Hear the Silence with Juliet Stevenson, Class of 76 with Robert Carlyle and Affinity with Anna Massey and Amanda Plummer.
The workshop will start with an initial chat about the process of casting, with tips on how best to prepare and how to make the best of the audition process.
This practical workshop also includes a mock casting for each actor, reading scenes from scripts sent out beforehand - notes and re-reading with individual feedback. The workshop will finish with a Q&A session.
Matt Western trained as an assistant casting director for 5 years and was involved in many high end drama productions for film and television including the iconic last episode of the Inspector Morse series (The Remorseful Day), numerous episodes of A Touch of Frost, The Sins (with Pete Postlethwaite and Frank Finley), Uncle Silas (series) with Albert Finney and The Princess of Thieves - the first major role for Keira Knightly.
Since 2000 Matt has worked as an independent freelance Casting Director. Recent feature projects include The Holding (with Kierson Wareing, David Bradley and Vincent Regan), Ways To Live Forever (with Ben Chaplin and Greta Scacchi) and Wasteland (with Luke Treadaway, Iwan Rheon and Tim Spall). Wasteland premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this year and is also featuring at The London Film Festival in October. Matt was the UK Casting Director for Paul Verhoeven on Zwartboek.
Matt is a full member of the BAFTA.
