In this class we will be specifically focusing on TV audition technique, with a chance to work on filmed scenes in pairs and watch them back in the group, and also the opportunity to discuss how to maximise the chances of getting those important TV jobs. We'll talk about handling scripts or script pages, what to think about in advance of the meeting, and also how to cope with nerves on the day.
Sarah Hughes is a freelance casting director in the Entertainment Department of the BBC, where series include , STRANGE, THE CROUCHES, GRASS, LOVE SOUP, PARENTS OF THE BAND, 2 PINTS, PULLING, John Sullivan's ROCK & CHIPS, JONATHAN CREEK and in 2010 the second series of THE OLD GUYS for BBC1, FREEDOM for BBC Scotland and THE GREAT OUTDOORS for BBC4.
Sarah was Alan Ayckbourn's casting director for seventeen years before his retirement in 2009, casting world premieres of his plays at the Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough, in the West End, at the National Theatre and on Broadway, as well as all other productions at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. She continues the relationship with Alan and the SJT on a freelance basis.
Freelance theatre work includes several plays for the West Yorkshire Playhouse and for the Theatre Royal Northampton, three productions for Frantic Assembly, including 2008's TMA award-winning OTHELLO; commercials, children's TV and drama documentaries. Sarah also recently cast TAKING STEPS for the Orange Tree theatre in Richmond, NOISES OFF and FIRST PERSON SHOOTER for Birmingham Rep and Alan Ayckbourn's latest play LIFE OF RILEY and a revival of COMMUNICATING DOORS for the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
In 2012 Sarah was working full time casting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies, and since September 2012 has just finished casting Ben Elton's 6-part comedy for BBC1, THE WRIGHT WAY, has cast THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST and CINDERELLA for the Stephen Joseph Theatre. Sarah is currently working on two new Alan Ayckbourn plays and the latest John Godber, and will be off to Seattle in April to cast SUGAR DADDIES for ACT Theatre.
