We are delighted to welcome back Matthew Xia, outgoing Associate Artistic Director at the Royal Exchange Theatre, for a practical session looking at rehearsal tools and techniques.

This workshop will be an opportunity to explore titles/events/actions and how they can help release blocks or obstacles, how they aid in staging work and self blocking and can allow the actor a way into the work. Texts to work on will be given on the night.

Matthew is leaving the NW to pursue a freelance career after his final RET production so this will be a last chance to work with him in Manchester for the forseeable future.

Matthew is currently rehearsing Frankenstein, his final production for RET. His recent work includes: Dublin Carol for Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, NitroPunch Pit Party - Suckerpunch Boom Suite for the Barbican, Wish List and Into the Woods for the Royal Exchange, Scrappers, Migration Music and Lights Up for the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse where he was Resident Director and Blue/Orange and the sell-out run of Sizwe Banzi is Dead for the Young Vic for which he won a Genesis Future Director award. Matthew is a long time associate at the Theatre Royal Stratford East and a former BBC DJ and composer.
