Alan Ayckbourn is often described as Europe's most performed playwright, and his huge output of plays is virtually unrivalled.

Sarah is Alan Ayckbourn's casting director, casting world premieres of his plays at the Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough, in the West End, at the National Theatre and on Broadway, as well as all other productions at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. She continues the relationship with Alan and the SJT on a freelance basis.

Sarah is currently casting the Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough's 2016 summer season and Alan Ayckbourn's 80th play!

In this workshop we will look at scenes old and new, and discuss audition practicalities, and how best to convey a sense of truth whilst preserving a comic sense too.

We will also look at the huge - and possibly surprising -  variety of opportunities for the actor that  Alan's plays and characters present.

Sarah Hughes is Alan Ayckbourn's casting director, casting world premieres of his plays at the Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough, in the West End, at the National Theatre and on Broadway, as well as many other productions at the Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Other theatre work includes plays for the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Birmingham Rep, and Theatre Royal Northampton, and many projects for Frantic Assembly, including LOVE SONG, OTHELLO, THE BELIEVERS and the forthcoming THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE. She was also a Senior Cast Co-ordinator for the London 2012 opening and closing ceremonies. She recently cast Peter Gill’s AS GOOD A TIME AS ANY for the Print Room, and Jack Thorne’s THE SECRET LIFE OF SUGAR WATER for Graeae.

Sarah has just finished on OTHELLO for Stafford Shakespeare Festival and is working for Graeae again later in 2016.

Sarah has also freelanced extensively for the Entertainment Department of the BBC.

She is a member of the Casting Directors’ Guild.

PLEASE NOTE: Your Spotlight CV will be sent to Sarah a few days before the class, please make sure it is up-to-date. You will receive a class information sheet which will include full directions before the class and sides will be provided at the workshop.
